Give It A Rest: Tech Tuesday
Yesterday I attended a training with several colleagues where we learned all about sleep. More sleep. Less sleep. Adolescent sleep. Sleep hygiene. Sleep and memory… (I could keep going). I’m going to distill the entire training, and papers, and research for you here: Sleep is important… very important.
One recurring theme throughout the day was the impact technology is having on our sleep. Tech can help to manage you… but sometimes we all (myself included) need to be reminded of the flip-side: you need to manage your tech.
So, today’s Tech Tip is simple, quick, and easy – Organization 101. It will consolidate your cords, save you grief, and (literally) has the potential to extend your life. ***oooh – aaaah***
CREATE A CENTRAL CHARGING STATION…
1) Pick a spot that IS NOT YOUR BEDSIDE TABLE (ideally near an electrical outlet)
2) Consolidate your cords – (ideas for: no budget… low budget … middle budget … fancy! … DIY/artsy)
3) Set your boundaries: choose a time (set an alarm if it helps) for everyone in the house to “power down” and plug in devices for charging.
4) Enforce!
Now, all your charging cords are in one place… you know where to find everyone’s electronics in the morning… you don’t have bright screens messing with your seratonin/melatonin cycles… your “power down” becomes part of your routine – and you can REST EASY.
Technology AND Sleep – SORTED!
P.S. Send us your charging station photo updates on Facebook or Twitter
